I am often asked, "What does it take to be a leader when working on innovation projects, and how is it different from other leadership?"
I recently shared my thoughts on leadership and the innovation process at Mary Jean Vignone, Ph.D. Organizational Development Fearless Femme Summit.
Whether you are leading an innovation team or a team member, this is an essential issue because innovation projects differ fundamentally from other projects. Innovation involves entering uncharted territory without knowing whether and how you will reach your goal.
It involves ambiguity, risk of failure, ups and downs, iteration, and often a nonlinear and messy course.
Remember, innovation isn't business as usual. It's a rollercoaster journey that requires patience, support, and a leader who can shield the team from traditional expectations.
How are you leading differently on innovation projects?
Thank you Mary Jean Vignone, Ph.D. Organizational Development, for welcoming me back to the Fearless Femme Summit!
